My name is Cassie Newman and I am excited to announce that I will be the Camp Director for the summer of 2015!
In the past I was a Brownie and Junior Girl Scout in Jacksonville, FL. With a great family and the out-of-doors influence Girl Scouts impressed upon me at a young age I grew up loving nature, camping, hiking, climbing, exploring... you get the picture. For this reason, I believe, I was drawn to apply for a full time District Executive position with the Suwannee River Area Council. A short while after accepting the position, I was given the opportunity to Co-Direct Wallwood's Boy Scout Resident Camp with Billy Hartsfield in 2014. After a whirlwind of a summer I am pleased to say both Billy and I survived and thrived. The past year has been full of plotting, planning, and perfecting the ins and outs of Wallwood BSR (endearingly known as WBSR and the occasional "Camp Wallwood) and I believe, my Program Director, Brice Reinman and I have come up with some great recipes for success.
The past weekend was our first Camp Staff Training aimed specifically at giving our staff time to design each merit badge course to be taught. I am already pleased by the quality and professionalism demonstrated by my staff this past weekend and hope campers, volunteers, and visitors alike will be as impressed.
Wallwood BSR's Resident Camp has a few changes coming its way. Please take note so all attending scouts and scouters may Be Prepared.
- We are going Cup Free! One re-usable cup will be distributed to each camper at check-in. Each Scout will be responsible for managing and cleaning their cup.
- Merit badge diversification, as you may have already noticed, is a part of the ongoing plan to keep camp's offering fluid and fresh.
- A new chef is coming to our kitchen! You may have indulged in his food before at OA events and other gatherings, but for the benefit of those who haven't, I'll share that it's the best camp food you'll have yet!
Again, I am thrilled to be your Camp Director this summer and hope you and your Troop are "stoked" on coming to camp this year!
In Scouting,
Cassie Newman
